Applicant must be a permanent resident of any country and must be entering their sophomore, junior, or senior year of undergraduate study, or entering or returning year of graduate study pursuing a travel and tourism degree with an interest in political science at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States. Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale required; strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills must be demonstrated. Application, scanned copy of driver's license (or passport) as proof of permanent residency, resume, original essay, at least one recommendation from a tourism-related faculty member or from a professional in the tourism industry, official transcript, and a scanned two-page original essay are required to be submitted. Required essay question: Discuss what segment of the travel and tourism industry your current program of study focuses on. What opportunities are you taking advantage of as you prepare for a career in the industry? Please tell us about your academic and extracurricular activities and volunteer experiences, i.e. work, internships, etc., in travel and tourism or government relations and how they tie into your present and future goals. Also include a couple of paragraphs about "What is your sense of the future of the packaged travel industry in North America over the next 10 years?" Recipient will be working in the office of Stephen Richer, the National Tour Association Public Affairs Advocate, in the Washington, D.C. area. Internship will cover the summer break or fall semester; duties will be researching issues that affect the travel and tourism industry.
